Alice Hyewon Ryu began studying piano at the age of eight. At the age of thirteen, Dr. Ryu was admitted to the Yewon Art School in Seoul, soon she made her debut in Seoul with Romanian National Symphony Orchestra at the Little Angels Art Center. Since then, she has performed as a soloist, recitalist, and chamber musician all over the world including Korea, Japan, Thailand, China, France, Italy, and the USA. Dr. Ryu has performed often in solo and chamber recitals in the country’s main concert halls, such as Steinway Hall, Stoughton Opera House, Shriver Hall, Friedberg Hall, Griswold Hall, Little Angels Art Center, Kumho Art Hall, Buam Art Hall, Concert Hall at Kookmin University and Suncheon National University, as well as with prestigious orchestras such as Korea philharmonic Symphony Orchestra, Prime Philharmonic Orchestra, and Romanian National Orchestra. She has performed on the Young Artist Concert Series sponsored by the Ewon Cultural Foundation, at the Friedberg hall Thursday Noon Concert Series, Peabody Institute Johns Hopkins University Alumni Chamber Concert Series at the Shriver Hall, as well as Chamber Recital at the Embassy of the Republic of Korea in Washington D.C. She also performed at various music summer festivals, including Courchevel Music Festival, France, Chautauqua Music Festival, NY, Quingdao China-Korea International Festival, Tong-Il Han Institute of Piano Festival in Seoul, Japan, and Thailand, as well as Classical Bridge Music Academy and Festival, NY. 

Dr. Ryu has been awarded many prizes, including the prize at Russel C. Wonderlic Piano Competition, Baltimore Music Club Competition, Joong-Ang University Piano Competition, Samick-Bernstein Piano Competition, An-yang University Piano Competition, and Buam Art Center Music Competition, Korea Philharmonic Orchestra Competition, in addition to many other awards. Dr.Ryu studied with some of the world’s respected pianists and pedagogues, among them Yong Hi Moon, Tong-Il Han, Bong Ae Shin, Sunkuyng Lee, and Minsuk Jeon, and was appeared in various Masterclasses and coaching by Leon Fleisher, Ellen Mack, and Alexander Shtarkman. Dr.Ryu earned a Bachelor’s degree in Piano performance at Yonsei University, Seoul, Korea, and completed a Master’s degree and a Doctoral degree at the Peabody Conservatory.  

As a founder of WeSingHope organization, a global community of professional musicians to design transformative programs of art music, she works to bring the healing power of music to underprivileged children and seniles, hospitalized, disabled, homeless, and anywhere in and out of nations in need, transforming their areas into inspiring environments that encourage a sense of serenity, joy, and hope.
